736 SHS teacher manuals withdrawn as NaCCA issues revised online version

The Ministry of Education has directed the withdrawal of 736 printed SHS teacher manuals after corrections were made to the Year 2 Physical Education and Health Elective content.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu disclosed this on Thursday while engaging reporters at the ministry, explaining that the decision followed concerns about content in the printed manuals.
He said the move formed part of urgent corrective steps taken by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).
“Accordingly, the following immediate steps have been taken,” Mr Iddrisu said. “All the 736 printed copies of the Year 2 Physical Education and Health Elective Teacher Manuals for senior high schools have been withdrawn to allow for a revised version.”
The minister explained that NaCCA had already completed corrections to the affected sections and made the updated material available online.
He cautioned teachers and schools against relying on the earlier printed manuals. “The online correction has been done, so nobody should be relying on the hard copies,” he stressed.
According to Mr Iddrisu, the decision reflects the government’s expectation that curriculum support materials must align strictly with Ghanaian values and national educational standards.
He noted that NaCCA, as the institution responsible for curriculum development and related materials, had accepted responsibility for addressing the issue promptly.
The withdrawn manuals relate specifically to the Year 2 Physical Education and Health Elective at the senior high school level. NaCCA has clarified in earlier communications that teacher manuals are supplementary instructional guides and do not constitute the approved national curriculum, which remains unchanged.
Education officials say the revised digital version now in circulation reflects the approved curriculum framework and corrects definitions that had raised concern during internal reviews.
The withdrawal exercise is expected to involve coordination with schools to retrieve the printed copies already distributed.
Education authorities say further guidance will be issued to school heads and teachers to ensure smooth use of the revised materials.
The ministry maintains that the corrective action demonstrates the effectiveness of review mechanisms within the education sector, while reinforcing its position that teaching and learning materials must support Ghana’s cultural values and educational objectives.
