Fake doctor nabbed after operating illegal clinic for 11 years in Yeji

The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly running an unlicensed clinic in Yeji Zongo.
The suspect, identified as Hanson Osei, is accused of operating the illegal facility for over a decade.
In a statement signed by the Regional Police PRO, ASP Appiah Danquah, police confirmed that Osei was picked up on September 28, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation. Investigators discovered that he had converted a chamber-and-hall room into a makeshift clinic.
A search of the premises uncovered several used clinical items, including needles, malaria injection bottles, infusion rubber sachets, and other medical supplies. During questioning, Osei allegedly admitted that he had been managing the unlicensed clinic for the past 11 years.
The suspect has since appeared before the Tuobodom District Court, where he was remanded in custody. He is expected to reappear on October 6, 2025, as police investigations continue.
The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) has announced a major initiative to protect public health as it cracks down on unlicensed medical practitioners across the country.
The Council said recent investigations exposed individuals providing healthcare services without proper certification, putting patients at serious risk.
During its briefing, the Council emphasized that the operation targets fake doctors operating under the guise of legitimate medical professionals. “Our undercover investigations confirmed that these individuals were attending to patients without lawful registration. Such practice is illegal and endangers lives,” the MDC stated.
Those apprehended include Kate Baidoo of Osag Medical Centre, Nsakena; Ebenezer Koomson of E & E Medical Centre, Gomoa Afransi; Innocent Tagbovi of Mighty Clinic, Madina; and Ebenezer Sarpong of Goodcare Medical Centre, Swalaba Bukom. The arrests illustrate why the Council continues to crack down on unlicensed practitioners, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s healthcare system.
Investigations revealed that Baidoo was consulting patients without registration, Koomson had not passed the licentiate examination despite training, Tagbovi was caught again after a previous arrest in 2017, and Sarpong was apprehended in August 2025. The MDC urged the public to report any suspicious medical activities to help maintain safe healthcare standards.
