Gunmen kill a 42-year-old man in Obuasi, close relative held
A 42-year-old man has been killed during a home invasion at Asonkore SSNIT in Obuasi East, with police detaining a close relative to assist investigations.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, when unidentified assailants attacked Bismark Yaw Sarfo Danso inside his residence.
The Obuasi Divisional Police Command has since launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
According to preliminary police findings, the attack took place between 1:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. when three armed men forcibly entered the house.
The assailants reportedly ransacked the premises and fled with cash, a laptop, and other valuables, indicating a suspected robbery.
The deceased’s wife, Comfort Mensah, told Adom News that the intruders overpowered occupants of the house before fatally attacking her husband. Her account suggests the incident was swift and targeted.
Although the assailants escaped, police have detained the junior brother of the deceased for questioning as part of efforts to establish the full chain of events. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including whether the crime involved external attackers alone or internal knowledge.
The body of Mr. Danso has been deposited at a mortuary in the Ashanti Region pending a post-mortem examination. Police have appealed to the public for credible information to support the ongoing investigation.
The Asonkore SSNIT area, usually considered a calm residential enclave, has been left shaken by the incident.
