Principals of Colleges of Education handed 20 cars in major government gesture

The Government of Ghana, through the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Friday handed over 20 vehicles to Principals of Colleges of Education, a move aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and support for students.

Chairman of GTEC, Professor Mahama Duweijua, described the gesture as a significant contribution to the provision of quality education.

“The provision of these cars is not just for movement, but for us it is a very significant thing to contribute towards the provision of quality education for colleges of education,” he said.

Professor Duweijua expressed gratitude to the Government and the Honorable Minister of Education, acknowledging the role of GetFund in facilitating the donation.

“The Board of GTEC, the Commission, is grateful to the Minister and GetFund for this gesture,” he noted, adding that the initiative reflects strategic planning by the Director General.

He urged the Principals to take care of the vehicles and maximize their use. “Some of your money was kept aside purposely for this and that is something you have to appreciate,” he said, highlighting that the cars would improve mobility for both staff and students.

Professor Duweijua also emphasized the symbolic importance of the gesture, referencing the long journeys some Principals undertake. “I heard this morning that the Principal of Enchi was coming to Accra in a metro bus. I hope that will be the end of it,” he remarked, encouraging those who have not yet received vehicles to remain patient.

The Chairman concluded with a note of optimism for future support. “Once again, we thank the Government and the Minister for this gesture, and we pray that next time, instead of 20, we’ll get 40,” he said.

The handover, held at the GTEC premises, signals the Government’s commitment to improving operational logistics in Ghana’s colleges of education.
