Robotics, AI pillars of education reset – Dr. Apaak

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, says robotics and Artificial Intelligence are central to the education reset under President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. Apaak made the remarks on Saturday evening during the official launch of the Horlap Experience, an event showcasing cutting-edge exhibitions and redefining innovation.

He indicated that the absence of the Education Minister was due to recent health concerns but assured participants that he had been discharged and was recovering well.

“All of us in this auditorium understand why he’s not here, but the good news is that he has since been discharged, he’s in very high spirits, and he can’t wait to get back to work to lead the effort to reset Ghana’s educational agenda and landscape,” he said.

Dr. Apaak stressed that the reset agenda places strong emphasis on preparing students for a competitive global economy driven by technology.

“If we are to produce the needed manpower to survive and thrive in this very competitive 21st century, clearly we cannot do that without robotics,” he stated.

He added, “We can’t survive without artificial intelligence, and indeed automation is something that has already come to stay.”

According to him, a team is currently working on a new national curriculum that embeds science, technology, engineering and mathematics at the foundational level of education.

“Part of that exercise is to ensure that our wards, the future of this nation, have access to start early in learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” he explained.

Dr. Apaak also referenced the recently launched STEM Box initiative.

“The STEM Box is designed to allow our pupils in upper primary, primary four, five and six, across the country, including rural areas, access to the basic equipment that a student would need to be able to learn STEM,” he said.

He described the reforms as a decisive step toward aligning Ghana’s education system with emerging global technological trends.
