No increase in licensure re-sit examination fees – NTC

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has dismissed reports alleging that it has increased the registration fee for its teacher licensure examination for re-sit candidates beyond GH¢400.00.

According to the Council, the fee remains GH¢400, with no recent increment, contrary to claims circulating in sections of the media. The NTC also refuted suggestions that it has cancelled the licensure examination.

Addressing a news conference in Accra on February 23, Chairman of the Council, Emmanuel Kwame Alorvi, described the reports as inaccurate and misleading.

He clarified that the last adjustment of the licensure examination fee was undertaken in 2023 and stressed that no further increases have been made since then.

“The last time the licensure fees were increased was in 2023, and for four years there has not been any increment in the fees, and even the Board of the NTC has not considered increasing the fees,” he stated.

Mr. Alorvi further explained that the first cohort of trainee teachers who sat for the examination in October 2025 but were unsuccessful are scheduled to re-sit the papers in March.

He disclosed that the Council has formally sought approval from the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, to designate March each year as the official period for re-sit examinations.

“The students that were denied, we have sought permission from the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, to allow us to schedule the month of March every year for those who fail the licensure exams to re-sit the papers,” Mr. Alorvi said.

According to the NTC Chairman, a formal proposal has already been submitted to the Minister for consideration.

The Council reiterated its commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and accessibility in the administration of Ghana’s teacher licensure examinations, urging the public to disregard misinformation circulating about fee increments or cancellation of the exams.
