Two dead, others in critical condition in truck crash at Santasi Apire Himang

A tyre burst on a sand-loaded tipper truck has left two people dead and two others critically injured in a crash at Santasi Apire Himang.

The accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Friday, March 20, when the truck, which was heading towards Himang, reportedly lost control after developing a fault while in motion.

According to preliminary information, the driver was unable to regain control of the vehicle after the tyre burst, causing the truck to veer into two private cars that were on the road at the time. Each of the cars had two occupants, all of whom were caught up in the collision.

The force of the impact left the vehicles badly damaged, with some of the victims trapped inside.

Emergency personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service at Sofoline responded swiftly after receiving reports of the crash.

Rescue teams worked to free the victims from the wreckage, with two individuals unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

The remaining two victims, who sustained severe injuries, were rescued and rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for urgent medical care, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Authorities have since moved the bodies of the deceased to the morgue while investigations begin into the exact circumstances leading to the accident.

Although the tyre burst is believed to have triggered the crash, officials are expected to examine other possible contributing factors, including the mechanical condition of the truck and general road safety compliance.

The incident has once again brought attention to the dangers associated with heavy-duty vehicles on major roads, especially when mechanical faults occur unexpectedly.

Residents in the area have previously expressed concerns about the movement of such trucks, particularly during early morning hours when visibility can be low and traffic conditions unpredictable.

The latest crash adds to a series of road accidents in the region involving tipper trucks and other heavy vehicles, raising renewed calls for stricter monitoring and enforcement of vehicle safety standards.
