NPP can’t talk about reshuffle until Bawumia rebuilds failed team – Manteaw

Policy analyst Steve Manteaw has pushed back against calls for a reshuffle, insisting critics from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lack the moral authority to demand changes.

His remarks come amid increasing public debate over whether the current administration should reorganise its ministers and heads of state institutions. Over the past week, some observers have argued that certain appointees have underperformed and that the government could tap into other capable individuals to advance its reset agenda.

But Mr. Manteaw has dismissed those calls, particularly from the opposition NPP, arguing that the party must first address its own internal challenges before criticising the government. According to him, the focus should be on the leadership structure around the party’s 2024 presidential candidate.

He maintained that individuals who played roles in what he described as a humiliating electoral defeat are still part of the team, raising questions about the party’s credibility to call for reforms elsewhere.

“Until Bawumia reshuffles his team that led him into a disgraceful defeat, nobody from that camp should lecture us on reshuffle,” he said in a social media post.

Mr. Manteaw further emphasised that the NPP and its members cannot demand accountability from the current administration while failing to take similar steps within their own ranks. In his view, political consistency requires that those calling for reforms must first demonstrate it in their own camp.

The debate over a possible reshuffle has intensified in recent days, with some arguing that a reorganisation could improve governance outcomes and strengthen delivery across key sectors. Others have suggested that fresh appointments could inject new energy into the administration’s policy agenda.

His comments have since triggered further discussion about leadership responsibility and the standards required for public criticism in Ghana’s political space.
