Effutu MCE donates 30 deep freezers to Winneba NDC

Effutu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Rev. Atta Mensah, has donated 30 deep freezers to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Winneba to support fish preservation and grassroots enterprise.
The items were presented on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the Premix Secretariat, Boat Yard in Winneba, during a ceremony attended by party members and local residents.
Rev. Atta Mensah said the donation formed part of a broader cold store initiative aimed at addressing post-harvest losses within fishing communities and strengthening local economic activity.
“These 30 deep freezers here are part of our cold store project, and it is my prayer that we will secure a bigger cold store project for the NDC,” he stated.

He indicated that while efforts were underway to secure a larger facility, it was necessary to begin with available resources to meet immediate needs.
“But we can secure that bigger project, why don’t we start with what we have?” he added, stressing the importance of practical steps in supporting livelihoods.
The MCE explained that the intervention was particularly relevant to fishing communities where preservation remains a major challenge.
“When it comes to fishing, you have to preserve the fish so I thought it wise that why don’t we get these fridges for the party,” he said.
He further clarified ownership of the equipment, noting that the freezers were not personal assets but meant for collective benefit.
“These fridges are for the party. They are not my property,” Rev. Atta Mensah emphasized.

Beyond the donation, he disclosed plans to expand opportunities for young people within the municipality, particularly in agriculture.
“As I speak I have secured a big land for the youth who would want to enter into farming,” he said.
He added that the land would be allocated to interested youth within the party to encourage participation in farming and support employment.
The initiative is expected to improve storage capacity for fish and other perishable goods while contributing to income generation among beneficiaries in the Effutu Municipality.
