Claims military lands were given to Ibrahim Mahama false – Brogya Genfi

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has dismissed reports suggesting that military lands have been allocated to businessman Ibrahim Mahama, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, he firmly rejected the allegations, stressing that they had no basis in fact.

“I wish to firmly dismiss and ignore any false and malicious reports suggesting that military lands have been given to the President’s brother to develop. That story is completely untrue,” he stated.

Mr Genfi explained that the issue in question relates instead to a redevelopment project being undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp in Accra. He noted that many of the existing structures on the military base were constructed during the colonial era and are now in a deteriorated state.

According to him, the project is part of a broader self-help housing initiative by the military aimed at replacing old and uninhabitable accommodation for personnel.

He further clarified that the initiative is being supported by private contributions, including a significant donation from Ibrahim Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of Dzata Group Holding Limited.

“In support of this noble initiative, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has generously donated GHC120 million as part of the replacement programme,” he said.

The deputy minister explained that the funds will support the construction of 10 residential blocks, each containing 16 housing units, as part of efforts to improve accommodation for military personnel.

He added that the donation was announced at a fundraising luncheon held at the Ghana Military Academy, an event chaired by renowned business leader Sam Jonah and attended by corporate stakeholders and partners of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Mr Genfi praised the contribution, describing it as a patriotic gesture that directly supports the welfare of soldiers.

“His contribution will directly improve the welfare of our gallant men and women in uniform, who sacrifice daily for the peace and security of our nation,” he noted.

He further emphasised that the redevelopment project is strictly an infrastructure improvement initiative by the Ghana Armed Forces and not a transfer or allocation of state or military lands to any private individual.

The deputy minister urged the public to disregard the circulating claims, insisting that the narrative being pushed was misleading and intended to create unnecessary public suspicion around a welfare-focused project.

The government, he said, remains committed to improving the living conditions of security personnel through partnerships that support infrastructure development within the armed forces.
