Nana Addo was our boss, but Mahama is our friend – A Plus

Gomoa Central MP Kwesi Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, says former President Nana Akufo-Addo was a boss, while President John Mahama is a friend to Ghanaians.
A Plus made the remarks on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen political programme on Tuesday while discussing his relationship with the two political leaders.
Speaking about the former President, he said, “Nana Addo is a big man, so he’s our boss. If you describe him as a friend, that will not be accurate. He’s the boss we work with.”
The Gomoa Central legislator said there was a clear difference between the public personas of the two leaders, describing President Mahama as someone who easily connects with ordinary Ghanaians.
“For John Mahama, he is a friend to everyone in Ghana,” he said.
A Plus added that Mahama’s personality made him more approachable to people from all walks of life.
“John Mahama is ‘boys boys’. You can go to the market and everyone will cheer to Mahama as a friend,” he stated.
On former President Akufo-Addo, A Plus maintained that he commanded a different type of presence.
“But Nana Addo is our boss. So you see he is Nana,” he said, referring to the literal meaning of the title “Nana” as an overlord or authority figure.
He also questioned whether an ordinary person could realistically describe the former President as a friend.
“But can we be friends with Akufo-Addo? At his level?” he asked.
A Plus, who currently serves as the independent Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, was previously aligned with the New Patriotic Party before parting ways with the party.
Following the fallout, he contested the 2024 parliamentary election as an independent candidate and defeated both the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress candidates to secure the seat.
Although he entered Parliament as an independent lawmaker, A Plus has consistently aligned himself with the Majority caucus and has described the working relationship as beneficial.
He maintained that he had no personal problems with former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
