Gov’t maintains revocation of three Adamus Resources mining leases after review

The government has maintained its decision to revoke three mining leases belonging to Adamus Resources Limited after an independent review committee completed its assessment of the company’s petition.

The decision was announced by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, following the submission of the final report of the Inter-Ministerial Committee set up to review the initial revocation.

The affected leases are the Akango, Salman and Nkroful concessions, which were revoked in April 2026 following inspections by the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission.

The inspections identified what the Commission described as multiple breaches of Ghana’s mining laws, including the unauthorised assignment of mineral rights to foreign nationals and mining outside approved concession areas without the required operating permits.

The company was also found to have commenced operations in assigned areas without securing the necessary environmental and forestry approvals.

The review committee further cited Adamus Resources’ alleged failure to cooperate with the Interim Management Committee overseeing the mine, as well as concerns over the disclosure of information and the accuracy of data provided during the review.

Among the financial issues identified were $2.56 million in unpaid mineral rights fees, GH¢86.8 million in unpaid royalties and GH¢290.5 million in tax arrears.

The committee also raised concerns over unexplained variations in gold exports, the transfer of $224 million to related parties abroad between 2020 and 2024, and the partial fulfilment of environmental bond obligations.

Following the Minister’s determination, Mr. Buah and officials of the Ministry and Minerals Commission visited the mine to engage workers and other stakeholders.

During the visit, the Minister assured workers that the Minerals Commission would work to ensure that mining operations continue without interruption while government considers the next steps.

Mr. Buah has also indicated that he intends to secure an order requiring Adamus Resources to fully and promptly settle its outstanding royalty, tax and other financial obligations to the Government of Ghana.
