Opong-Fosu challenges NDC youth to move beyond campaigns, engage in policy formulation

Former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Opong-Fosu, has challenged young members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to move beyond their traditional role as campaign activists and take a more active role in policy formulation and national leadership.
Speaking at the Western Region NDC Youth and Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) Conference, Mr. Opong-Fosu said young people must not be regarded merely as leaders of the future but should be empowered to contribute meaningfully to decision-making today.
He urged members of TEIN to transition from campaign ground-workers into active contributors to national policy formulation.
According to him, political organisations must create opportunities for young people to apply their intellect and leadership skills beyond election campaigns.
Mr. Opong-Fosu also challenged the youth to demand institutional integrity from both party leadership and state institutions, particularly in the face of growing political apathy.
He said activism at the tertiary level must translate into visible, selfless leadership and meaningful service to local communities.
The former minister further urged the NDC youth to see themselves as active partners in shaping the party’s future and Ghana’s broader political and governance landscape.
