Gov’t begins six-month feasibility study for proposed Keta-Axim water transport

The government has taken steps towards establishing a proposed coastal water transport service connecting Keta in the Volta Region to Axim in the Western Region.

The Ministry of Transport announced the development in a social media post on Friday, August 14, 2026, stating that it had signed a contract with Vision Consult, in collaboration with KPMG, to undertake feasibility studies for the proposed service.

The Ministry said, “The Ministry of Transport has signed a contract with Vision Consult, in collaboration with KPMG, to undertake feasibility studies for the proposed Coastal Water Transport Service.”

Under the six-month contract, the consultants will assess the viability of establishing the proposed coastal route from Keta to Axim.

According to the Ministry, “Under the six-month contract, Vision Consult/KPMG will conduct the necessary assessments and present their findings and recommendations to the Government.”

The findings will then help determine whether the proposed service is viable and can be developed.

The Ministry added, “The outcome of the feasibility study will guide Government’s decision on the viability and potential development of the proposed coastal water transport service, aimed at expanding Ghana’s transportation options along the coast.”

The proposed service, if found feasible and approved, could provide an alternative mode of transport for communities along Ghana’s coastline while complementing existing transportation networks.
