NPP sets GH¢50,000 nomination fee for National Chairperson Race

Aspiring candidates seeking to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming National Executive Elections will have to pay up to GH¢50,000 for nomination forms, according to an update issued by the party’s National Elections Committee.

The National Chairperson position attracts the highest nomination fee of GH¢50,000, while candidates seeking the position of National Vice Chairperson will pay GH¢30,000. The nomination fee for the General Secretary position has been set at GH¢25,000.

Candidates contesting all other national executive positions will pay GH¢10,000, while aspirants for the party’s special wings Nasara, Women and Youth will pay GH¢8,000.

The fees form part of the guidelines announced by the National Elections Committee ahead of the party’s National Executive Elections scheduled for October 3, 2026. Nominations are scheduled to open from August 17 to August 22, with filing of nominations set for August 23 to 27.

According to the Committee, payment for nomination forms will be accepted in cash or by cheque at the party’s National Headquarters at Asylum Down.

Aspirants will receive an official receipt after payment, which will be required before the appropriate nomination form is issued or a completed downloaded form is accepted for filing.

The party has also set eligibility requirements for aspirants, including being a known and active registered party member for at least two years, being in good standing, having paid membership dues for the past two years and paying the prescribed nomination fee.

The elections will be conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana under the supervision of the NPP National Elections Committee, in accordance with the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).

With the nomination window fast approaching, the GH¢50,000 fee places a significant financial requirement on individuals seeking to lead the party at the national level, while lower fees apply to other executive and special-wing positions.
