Mahama: Gov’t to complete Agenda 111 hospital, construct new facility in Bawku

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will complete one of the Agenda 111 hospitals in the Bawku area and construct a new hospital in Bawku Municipality to improve healthcare delivery.

He made the announcement during the Resetting Ghana Citizens’ Engagement in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region on Friday, August 14, 2026.

President Mahama said a significant portion of the government’s planned investment in Bawku would be channelled into the health and road sectors as part of efforts to revitalise the area.

“We’re devoting the bulk of the money to the health sector and the road sector,” he said.

The President disclosed that work had already commenced on some township roads and health facilities, while the government was preparing to complete one of the Agenda 111 hospitals and construct an additional hospital in Bawku.

“And so we’ll complete one of the Agenda 111 hospitals there. And then we’ll also build a new hospital in Bawku itself. And so these are some of the things that we are working on,” he said.

President Mahama said the government would also improve the road network and bridges in the Bawku area to facilitate the movement of traders and farmers and enable them to transport their goods and services more easily.

“We want to improve the road network and the bridges in the Bawku area, so that traders and others, farmers, can move their goods and services easily. And then also improve the healthcare in the area,” he added.

The planned investments form part of broader government efforts to restore economic and social activities in Bawku following improvements in the security situation.

President Mahama commended traditional authorities and residents for their efforts to sustain peace in the area.

He also praised the Inspector General of Police and other security personnel for what he described as a significant improvement in security across the Upper East Region.

According to the President, incidents of motorbike snatching, armed robbery and other crimes have reduced considerably.

President Mahama undertook a two-day working visit and Resetting Ghana tour of the Upper East Region from August 13 to 14, 2026.

The tour focused on inspecting key infrastructure projects, commissioning public projects, engaging traditional leaders and residents, and expressing gratitude to the people of the region for their support in the 2024 elections.
