E/R: One arrested as police intercept 500 cartons of Tramadol in Pusiga

One person has been arrested following the interception of about 500 cartons of assorted brands of Tramadol at Widana in the Pusiga District of the Upper East Region.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, by personnel from the Police Intelligence Department (PID) and the operational team code-named Black Cobra, after a month-long intelligence-gathering exercise.
According to the police, the suspect, Abdul Ali, 21, a Burkinabe, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The suspected illicit drugs were intercepted from a privately operated warehouse and some individual homes within Widana.
Police intelligence further indicates that the alleged importation of the drugs involves foreign nationals from Mali, Togo, Burkina Faso and Senegal, who are believed to use Widana as a transit and distribution centre.
Abdul Ali is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the police continue efforts to identify and arrest other persons linked to the operation.
