Big Push Road projects targeted for completion by end of 2027 – Deputy Roads Minister

The government has set a 24-month completion deadline for road projects being undertaken under its flagship Big Push infrastructure programme, with the majority expected to be completed and handed over by the end of 2027.
Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, disclosed this during an interview explaining that the government has imposed an accelerated delivery schedule on contractors to ensure critical road infrastructure is completed within the current administration’s tenure.
According to him, some of the projects would ordinarily require about 36 months to complete under normal construction timelines. However, contractors working under the Big Push programme have been given a compressed 24-month period to deliver.
“Some of the Big Push projects, the engineers will tell you, under normal circumstances, they expect contractors to take about 36 months to finish the projects, but we have given them 24 months,” Mr Suhuyini said.
He said the shortened timeframe reflects the government’s determination to accelerate the delivery of major road projects and address longstanding infrastructure challenges affecting motorists, businesses and communities across the country.
Mr Suhuyini added that the Roads and Highways authorities are closely monitoring projects on the ground and putting pressure on contractors whose works are falling behind schedule.
He explained that where delays are identified, corrective measures are being pursued to bring the affected projects back on track and ensure that the 24-month target is achieved.
Projects expected to progress in 2026
Some components of the Big Push programme are expected to record significant progress before the end of 2026.
Mr Suhuyini said substantial portions of the Adenta road project are targeted for completion by December, a development expected to ease congestion and improve traffic movement for motorists in the area.
He also indicated that additional sections of the Tema-Aflao corridor are expected to be opened to traffic before the end of the year.
However, he clarified that while some sections of the corridor are expected to become operational, the entire project will not be completed in 2026.
Commissioning to begin in 2027
The Deputy Roads Minister expressed confidence that the accelerated construction programme will allow the government to begin commissioning completed projects from the middle of 2027.
“Our expectation is that by the middle of next year, His Excellency President Mahama should begin commissioning some of these projects,” he said.
The planned commissioning of completed projects is expected to provide a visible indication of progress under the Big Push programme, which has been positioned as a major component of the government’s infrastructure agenda.
The programme seeks to improve road connectivity, reduce travel difficulties, support economic activity and open up communities by providing critical transport infrastructure.
With contractors working under the 24-month delivery window, the government is expected to maintain close supervision of ongoing projects to ensure that construction timelines are met and completed roads are delivered to the required standards.
If the schedule is maintained, a significant number of Big Push road projects could be completed and handed over by the end of 2027, giving motorists and communities across the country access to improved road infrastructure.
