NPP gives national election aspirants more time to file nomination forms

New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted aspirants contesting its 2026 National Officers Elections an additional two days to complete and submit their nomination documents.
National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) announced the extension on Friday, August 21, moving the filing deadline from Thursday, August 27, to Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The Committee said the decision was taken in response to the growing interest in the upcoming national executive elections and to prevent difficulties in the submission and verification of nomination documents.
According to NOEC, the additional period will allow aspirants who have already collected their forms enough time to complete the process and ensure that their documents meet the required standards.
The Committee indicated that the revised arrangement would allow completed forms to be submitted between August 23 and August 29.
The extension comes as the race for key positions within the opposition party attracts significant attention. By the close of nomination activities on Thursday, August 20, a total of 44 aspirants had collected nomination forms.
NOEC emphasised that the decision to extend the filing period would not result in changes to the other stages of the electoral calendar.
Vetting remains scheduled for August 31 to September 3, after which the Committee is expected to announce the outcome on September 5.
Aspirants who are dissatisfied with the vetting results will have the opportunity to appeal on September 6 and 7.
The party’s National Executive Committee and National Council are expected to meet on September 10, while the Notice of Poll is scheduled for publication on September 14.
The elections themselves will take place on October 3, 2026, when delegates will vote to elect the party’s national officers.
NOEC explained that, the extension is to ease pressure on aspirants and the electoral committee as preparations intensify for the contest.
NOEC assured party members and stakeholders that it would continue to uphold the principles of fairness and transparency throughout the process.
The Committee added that its objective was to provide all aspirants with an equal opportunity to participate while ensuring that the elections are conducted in an orderly and credible manner.
