GRIDCo announces 15-hour power outages in parts of Accra on Sunday

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced a planned power interruption in parts of the Greater Accra Region as it undertakes the next phase of repairs on a damaged tower along the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line.
The affected tower, located in the Ashaiman area, was damaged following a tanker explosion nearby.
According to a press release issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, the repair works are scheduled for Sunday, August 23, from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
GRIDCo said the exercise is necessary to restore the integrity of the transmission line and ensure the safety and reliability of the power network.
”Our engineers and technical teams will use this period to safely undertake the remaining work to restore the integrity of the transmission line,” the company said.
It added that power supply to some areas in the Greater Accra Region would be interrupted during the exercise to facilitate the replacement works and protect workers and the public.
”To facilitate the replacement works and ensure the safety of personnel and the public, power supply to some locations in the Greater Accra Region will be interrupted during the period of work,” GRIDCo explained.
The company further disclosed that it is working with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to reduce the impact of the planned outage on customers and communities in the affected areas.
”GRIDCo is collaborating with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to mitigate the impact of the power supply interruption on customers and communities in areas affected by the planned works,” the statement noted.
