Ghana Clean Environment Confab: ‘Indiscriminate dumping cannot be tolerated’ – Julius Debrah

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has warned that government will step up enforcement of sanitation laws and take action against practices that endanger communities.
Speaking at the Ghana Sanitation and Clean Environment Conference, he said indiscriminate dumping, construction without proper toilet facilities and structures blocking waterways could no longer be tolerated.
“Indiscriminate dumping cannot be tolerated. Houses should not be built without proper toilet facilities. Structures must not be allowed to block waterways and place whole communities at risk,” he said.
Debrah said enforcement would be carried out fairly and consistently, regardless of the status or influence of individuals involved.
“Enforcement must be firm, fair and consistent,” he stated.
He described sanitation as more than a cosmetic exercise, saying it is a measure of responsible citizenship and effective leadership.
“A clean country is therefore not a cosmetic mission. It is a test of citizenship. It is a test of leadership,” he stated.
“Government will support the relevant agencies to do what the law requires, without fear or favour.”
His comments come amid growing concerns over sanitation, flooding and the obstruction of waterways in parts of the country.

The Clean Conference is a high-level national dialogue organized by Ignite Media Group.
It brings together government officials, traditional leaders, and environmental experts to evaluate Ghana’s progress and roadmap toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, with a strong focus on sanitation, environmental health, and sustainable development.
