GEEDLab to strengthen evidence-based decision-making in Ghana’s education sector – Dr. Apaak

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak says the Ministry is taking steps to strengthen evidence-based decision-making in Ghana’s education sector through the Ghana Education Evidence and Data Laboratory (GEEDLab).

Dr. Apaak made the disclosure when the Board of the Jacobs Foundation visited the Ministry on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen cooperation between the two institutions.

According to him, GEEDLab is one of the initiatives being supported under the GALOP Additional Financing and is designed to establish a coordinated approach to research, data management, and knowledge dissemination within the education sector.

“The Ghana Education Evidence and Data Laboratory (GEEDLab) is strategically design to strengthen evidence-based decision making in Ghana’s Education sector by establishing a coordinated approach to research, data management and knowledge dissemination,” Dr. Apaak said.

He explained that the initiative operates through four interrelated components, including a Research and Learning Agenda, development of a research repository, development of a unified education database, and capacity building for national and sub-national officers.

Dr. Apaak said the Ministry had made progress on the initiative since January 2026, particularly with the development of the research and learning agenda and the operational manual.

“Since January 2026, the Ministry has developed the research and learning agenda and developed the operational manual for GEEDLad,” he said.

He said GEEDLab, alongside the Communities of Excellence initiative, would play an important role in improving learning outcomes and strengthening accountability within the education sector.

“These two initiatives are significant and central to enhancing learning outcomes and promoting accountability,” Dr. Apaak stated.

The visit by the Jacobs Foundation Board forms part of ongoing engagements between the Foundation and the Ministry aimed at strengthening collaboration on education programmes supported under the GALOP Additional Financing.
