‘What kind of citizen wants Mahama to fail?’ – Anatu Seidu Bogobiri Esq fires at NPP over CJ attack

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri Esq., has questioned why anyone would want President John Dramani Mahama to fail, following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) criticism of Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

The NPP criticised the Chief Justice over comments he made during working visits to the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) on Wednesday, September 2.

During the visits, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie commended the two institutions for their performance and expressed concern about what Ghana had been doing over the previous eight years.

He also said President Mahama’s agenda would benefit Ghana and should be supported to succeed, remarks the NPP described as partisan.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday, September 3, madam Bogobiri dismissed the criticism as “mischievous, hypocritical and unpatriotic.”

She argued that President Mahama is not merely the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but the President of the Republic of Ghana, meaning that his success or failure affects the entire country.

“John Dramani Mahama is not just National Democratic Congress (NDC) President; he is President of the Republic of Ghana. His failure is Ghana’s failure. His success is Ghana’s success,” she stated.

Bogobiri further questioned why anyone, including the Chief Justice, would wish for the President to fail when his administration’s agenda includes fighting corruption, creating jobs and stabilising the economy.

“If President John Dramani Mahama’s agenda to reset Ghana, fight corruption, create jobs and stabilize the economy succeeds, every Ghanaian benefits, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters. What kind of citizen, let alone a Chief Justice, would want the President of Ghana to fail?” she added.

The NHIA DCEO maintained that the Chief Justice’s remarks did not amount to partisan politics, arguing that he did not ask Ghanaians to vote for the NDC in the 2028 elections.

According to her, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was instead speaking about the need to support efforts aimed at national development.

She also accused the NPP of hypocrisy, claiming that previous Chief Justices had made similar calls for support for government programmes without attracting criticism from the party.

The Chief Justice’s visits to MIIF and SSNIT formed part of engagements with state institutions on governance and accountability. During the engagements, he commended the current management of the institutions for what he described as prudent use of public resources.
