WAEC releases 2026 WASSCE results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

A total of 512,862 candidates wrote the examination, with performance across the four core subjects showing mixed results, according to WAEC.

The data were contained in a statement released by the Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, on Friday.

Social Studies recorded the strongest performance among the four core subjects, with 393,918 candidates, representing 78.04 percent, obtaining grades A1 to C6.

The subject marked a significant recovery from its 55.82 percent performance in 2025. It had recorded 76.76 percent in 2023 and 71.53 percent in 2024.

English Language, however, recorded the weakest A1 to C6 performance among the four core subjects in 2026, with 315,094 candidates, representing 62.40 percent.

The figure also continued a four-year decline in English performance, falling from 73.11 percent in 2023 to 69.52 percent in 2024 and 69.00 percent in 2025 before reaching 62.40 percent this year.

Core Mathematics recorded a recovery after its sharp decline in 2025, when 48.73 percent of candidates obtained A1 to C6. The proportion increased to 60.75 percent in 2026, although it remained below the 62.23 percent recorded in 2023 and 66.86 percent in 2024.

Integrated Science also improved, with the proportion of candidates obtaining A1 to C6 rising from 57.74 percent in 2025 to 62.08 percent in 2026. However, the figure remained below the 66.82 percent recorded in 2023.

The results further showed that 49,771 candidates obtained D7 in English, while 37,080 received E8 and 55,940 obtained F9.

In Mathematics, 54,420 candidates received D7, 54,121 obtained E8 and 74,692 received F9.

For Integrated Science, 54,649 candidates obtained D7, 46,526 received E8 and 76,136 obtained F9.

Social Studies recorded 35,435 D7 grades, 25,253 E8 grades and 39,416 F9 grades.

WAEC described the results as provisional, with the performance statistics highlighting significant differences in candidates’ outcomes across the core subjects.
