GARID closes Pamprom stretch for drainage works

The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project has temporarily closed the westbound carriageway at Pamprom Junction to assess traffic ahead of drainage works.

The closure took effect on Monday, September 7, 2026, along the Dr. Busia Highway and is expected to affect traffic movement around the Pamprom Junction and Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange.

GARID said the temporary restriction is part of a traffic simulation exercise designed to assess how motorists will be affected when major drainage improvement works begin in the area.

“The temporary restriction is necessary to assess the potential traffic situation before the major drainage improvement works begin,” GARID explained.

According to the project authorities, the simulation will provide a clearer understanding of traffic conditions that could emerge during the construction period.

The exercise is expected to help authorities identify areas that could experience significant congestion, delays and possible gridlock once construction activities begin.

GARID said the findings will be used to inform traffic management measures and possible diversions aimed at minimising disruption to motorists throughout the construction period.

“The simulation will provide a clearer picture of how the planned construction could affect traffic movement around Pamprom Junction,” the project stated.

The information gathered from the exercise will enable project managers and traffic authorities to put in place measures to manage vehicle movement and reduce the impact of the construction on commuters.

Motorists who regularly use the affected stretch have consequently been advised to consider alternative routes where possible to avoid unnecessary delays.

GARID has also urged road users to exercise caution and comply with traffic management arrangements around the affected area.

“Motorists are advised to comply with the traffic measures and consider alternative routes where possible to avoid delays,” the project said.

The temporary closure and simulation are expected to help authorities better prepare for the main drainage construction and reduce the likelihood of severe traffic disruption when the project begins.

GARID further urged Motorists travelling through Pamprom Junction and the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange have therefore been encouraged to remain patient, follow official traffic directions and allow additional time for their journeys while the temporary measures are in effect.
