Bagbin Summons Parliament to Reconvene on September 29

Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has summoned Parliament to reconvene on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in accordance with the provisions of the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament.

The summons was contained in a notice issued by the Office of the Speaker on September 24, 2026, pursuant to Article 112(3) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

According to the statement, Members of Parliament are expected to assemble at Parliament House at 12 noon on Tuesday, September 29, for the resumption of parliamentary proceedings.

“Pursuant to Article 112(3) of the Constitution and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of the Parliament, I, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, hereby summon Parliament to sit on Tuesday, 29th September, 2026 at twelve noon at Parliament House, Accra,” the notice stated.

The Speaker’s directive effectively recalls lawmakers from recess and paves the way for the House to resume its legislative, representative and oversight functions.

Although the notice did not outline the specific business to be considered during the sitting, Parliament is expected to deliberate on matters requiring legislative attention and decisions by the House.

The recall of Parliament is provided for under Article 112(3) of the Constitution, which allows the Speaker to summon the House to meet outside its regular sittings. Order 53 of the Standing Orders further sets out the procedures governing such a summons.

“I hereby summon Parliament to sit on Tuesday, 29th September, 2026 at twelve noon at Parliament House, Accra,” Speaker Bagbin reiterated in the notice.
