Fire at GRIDCo’s Mallam Substation disrupts power supply to parts of Accra

A fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo)’s Mallam Substation has disrupted electricity supply to parts of Accra after a fault triggered a fire on one of the facility’s transformers in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The incident occurred at about 2:36 a.m., affecting power supply to areas served by the substation.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, GRIDCo said the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident and successfully contained and extinguished the fire.
The company said electricity supply had been restored to some of the affected areas, while efforts were underway to restore power to the remaining areas as quickly as possible.
GRIDCo’s engineers are also investigating the cause of the fire, while processes have been initiated to replace the affected transformer to support the restoration of normal operations at the substation.
The company acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruption and apologised to affected customers and stakeholders, thanking them for their patience and understanding.
“GRIDCo sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and thanks all affected customers and stakeholders for their patience and understanding,” the statement said.
