John Darko denies involvement in alleged scheme to deny SIC court judgment benefits

The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has denied involvement in any alleged scheme to deprive SIC Life Savings and Loans (SIC) of the benefits of court judgments, insisting that he was not part of any decision to compromise the judgment in favour of the financial institution.
He made the position known in a press release issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, by Darko, Keli-Delataa & Co, the law firm representing him. The statement was signed by K. Keli-Delataa, Managing Partner of the firm, following Darko’s meeting with investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
According to the statement, the meeting followed an invitation extended to the Suame MP to assist with EOCO’s ongoing investigations into the affairs of SIC Savings and Loans and Equity Savings and Loans (Equity).
The firm explained that the interrogation focused on Mr. Darko’s role as legal counsel for Equity during its litigation with SIC over a matured but unpaid investment, as well as his membership of Equity’s board between 2015 and 2023.
However, the statement maintained that Mr. Darko had no involvement in any alleged conspiracy to deny SIC the benefits of its judicial awards.
”Further, our client had ceased to be board member of Equity by September 2023 and was certainly not a participant in any decision to compromise a court judgment in a conspiratorial scheme to deny SIC the benefits of its judicial awards,” the statement said.
The firm also clarified that its involvement was limited to litigation and the recovery of part of the judgment awards to SIC.
It further stated that it was unaware of any decision by Equity to dispose of land that was the subject of a judicial attachment to a third party, ECOSWISS.
According to the statement, the firm had already terminated the extension of its legal services to Equity before the post-judgment events because of non-payment for legal services.
The statement stressed that Darko and the firm remained committed to cooperating with investigators as the inquiry continued.
”Our client is committed to the ongoing investigations and stands ready to provide any further assistance to EOCO concerning his role and that of our firm in this SIC and EOCO matter,” it added.
The firm also expressed appreciation to EOCO’s investigators for their professionalism during the interrogation.
