Our client unaware of Equity’s land disposal decision in SIC dispute – Lawyers for Suame MP

By: Godbless Asaana
The law firm representing Suame Member of Parliament John Darko has stated that it was unaware of any decision by Equity Savings and Loans (Equity) to dispose of land that was the subject of a judicial attachment, as investigations continue into matters involving SIC Savings and Loans (SIC) and Equity.
In a press release dated Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Darko, Keli-Delataa & Co said its client had met investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to assist with ongoing investigations into the two financial institutions.
The firm said the meeting followed an invitation from EOCO and centred on Mr. Darko’s role as legal counsel for Equity during its litigation with SIC over a matured but unpaid investment.
It also addressed his membership of Equity’s board between 2015 and 2023.
According to the statement, the firm played a role in the litigation and the recovery of part of the judgment awards to SIC but denied any further involvement in post-litigation settlements between the parties.
”Our client assured EOCO that beyond our firm’s involvement in the litigation and the recovery of part of the judgment awards to the SIC, it played no further part in any post-litigation settlement between the parties,” the statement said.
The firm added that it was unaware of any decision by Equity to dispose of land that had been attached through judicial proceedings in favour of a third party, ECOSWISS.
It further disclosed that its legal relationship with Equity had been terminated before the post-judgment events because of outstanding payments for legal services.
”Before these post-judgment events, our firm had already terminated extension of legal services to Equity on account of non-payment for legal services,” the statement said.
The firm also emphasised that Mr. Darko had ceased to be a member of Equity’s board by September 2023 and rejected any suggestion that he participated in a scheme to compromise a court judgment against the interests of SIC.
It maintained that both the MP and the law firm had conducted themselves ethically and professionally throughout their engagement with Equity.
”Our client wishes to assure members of the general public that he and the firm have been highly ethical and professional throughout the period they represented Equity,” the statement added.
The firm concluded by reaffirming its willingness to assist EOCO with the ongoing investigations and commended the investigators for their professionalism during the interrogation.
