Agona Nkwanta court jails 30-year-old man for three months over viral wife assault

Emmanuel Kwofie, the 30-year-old farmer seen in a viral video assaulting his wife, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Agona Nkwanta District Court.
The sentence was imposed on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after Kwofie pleaded guilty to assaulting Diana Mensah, his wife, following an accusation of infidelity.
The Western Regional Police Command said the conviction was secured by the Agona Nkwanta District Police Command after the suspect was arrested and put before the court.
In a press release announcing the outcome, the police stated:
“The Agona Nkwanta District Police Command today 14th October 2026 secured conviction and sentencing of Emmanuel Kwofie aged 30, in connection with an assault incident, which went viral on social media.”
Kwofie was arrested on October 12, two days after the assault, and appeared before the court presided over by His Worship Mr Kuma Selorm Dzata.
The police said he pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.
According to the police, Kwofie is a farmer who lives with his wife at Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality. Mensah works as a second-hand clothing trader.
Investigators established that the assault occurred on October 8, 2026, after Kwofie accused her of having an extramarital affair.
The police statement said he subjected her to a severe beating, as captured in the video that subsequently circulated on social media.
The footage brought the incident to wider public attention before Kwofie’s arrest and prosecution.
The court sentenced Kwofie to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour after he admitted the assault charge.
The police release confirmed the sentence, stating that he was convicted on his own plea.
The announcement was signed by Chief Superintendent Olivia Et Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command.
The case began with an assault on October 8, followed by the suspect’s arrest on October 12 and his appearance before the District Court on October 14.
