BoG Governor calls for electronic portal to make Ghana’s official data accessible

Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama has called for the creation of a dedicated electronic portal to make the underlying data in the Ghana in Numbers 2025 report more accessible to researchers, policymakers, businesses and the public.
He said the platform should provide data in machine-readable and readily usable formats to allow users to conduct deeper analysis and identify patterns that may not be apparent in published tables and charts.
Speaking at the launch of the maiden edition of the report in Accra on Thursday, October 29, Dr. Asiama said improving digital access to official statistics could increase the publication’s value and impact.
“I believe that Ghana in Numbers can go a step further to enhance its value and impact by making the underlying data series available through a dedicated electronic portal in accessible, machine-readable and readily usable formats,” he said.
He explained that such a platform would support the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning and other analytical tools to explore the country’s data.
“Such a platform would enable researchers, academia, policymakers and other users to apply artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced analytical tools to explore the data more deeply and uncover patterns, interrelationships and correlations that may not be readily apparent from the published tables and charts alone,” he added.
Dr. Asiama said reliable statistics were crucial to the Bank of Ghana’s monetary policy decisions, which depend on assessments of inflation, exchange rates, economic activity, credit conditions and external developments.
“Reliable statistics do more than inform policy. They strengthen transparency, enhance accountability and promote public confidence in institutions. They also help businesses and investors assess economic conditions, manage risks and make informed investment decisions,” he stated.
The maiden edition of Ghana in Numbers 2025, produced by the Ghana Statistical Service, includes a dedicated monetary and financial-sector section drawing substantially on official data from the Bank of Ghana.
The report is intended to provide a consolidated source of socioeconomic information to support policy formulation, research and public understanding of Ghana’s development.
