CLOGSAG suspends nationwide strike

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has suspended its nationwide strike, which began on February 20, 2025. This decision was made during an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) on March 28, 2025.
According to Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, the suspension will allow for continued engagements to resolve the impasse. “In this regard, CLOGSAG entreats staff of the Civil Service and the Local Government Service to resume work on Wednesday, 2nd April 2025,” he stated.
CLOGSAG embarked on the strike to protest the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Births and Deaths Registrar. The association argued that Botchway’s alleged political affiliation with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) compromised civil service neutrality and undermined professionalism in the public sector.
The strike, which started six weeks ago, had significant implications for public services across the country. With the suspension, CLOGSAG members are expected to return to work, restoring normalcy to public offices.
