Gov’t promotes deputy directors of education whose promotion delayed

The Mahama government is facilitating the promotions of deputy directors in the Ghana Education Service (GES) whose promotion delayed as a consequence of unavailable office spaces, to director status.

According to the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, although the lack of office spaces remains a lingering issue, these personnel will nonetheless be given the upward recognition.

Speaking at the launch of the National Sanitary Pad Distribution Program in Accra, with the support of his deputy Minister, Dr. Clement Apaak, Mr. Haruna said education officers had lamented over the issue in their interactions with then Candidate Mahama during the election campaign last year, therefore, this move is in fulfillment of a widely craved intervention.

“One of your major concerns the president just referred to me is that in his campaign rounds [he was told] many of you who are deputy directors-general of education suffer to hold the ladder above you to become directors because of the unavailability of office space.

“President John Damani Mahama has directed the GES and the Ministry of Education that henceforth all those deputy directors be given their legitimate promotion and I say that even without capacity, they will still serve the GES in the capacity of directors,” the minister said to applause.

The minister further promised an array of measures aimed at bolstering the Ghanaian education sector including setting aside appropriate funding for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) facilitation in the country.
