CJ suspension: Stop the interference in the work of the Executive – PTAAM-AFRICA to Minority

Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement – Africa (PTAAM-Africa) has condemned the Minority in parliament for what they describe as interfering in the work of the Executive arm of government.

This comes on the back of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, urging the judiciary to stand together as one body and make a full statement and condemn the attempt to remove the Chief Justice.

He also urged the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to stand for the judiciary, and Civil Society Organisations to stand for the judiciary.

At a press conference held after a National Executive Committee meeting of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday, April 16, he said, “We are aware of attempts by persons in government to push for the removal of the Chief Justice from office. The judiciary should not be seen as part of the party-political system in our country. All we need is an impartial judiciary to dispense justice.

In a sharp rebuttal, PTAAM-AFRICA indicated in a statement that the Minority got it wrong.

“PTAAM-AFRICA condemns the Minority Leader, Hon. Afenyo-Markin ‘s call to subject this issue to partisan politics rather than strengthening our existing democracy.

“We unequivocally state that no individual or institution is above the law governing our conduct and misconduct in this country”, the group stated.
