GBA’s claims on Chief Justice suspension ridiculous and disgraceful – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has described the Ghana Bar Association’s (GBA) claims on the suspension of the Chief Justice as “mischievous, ridiculous, and disgraceful.”
Speaking on Joy FM, Gyamfi emphasized that while the GBA has the right to express its opinions on matters of public interest, it is not the only institution entitled to hold views.
According to Gyamfi, the GBA’s stance on the President’s suspension of the Chief Justice lacks legal basis and is driven by partisan interests.
“When he says that the GBA is entitled to express his opinions on matters of public interest as it deems fit, but what he fails to acknowledge is that the GBA is not the only institution entitled to express an opinion, and that when they express their opinion, we are also entitled to express an opinion on their opinion,” he said.
Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that the GBA’s opinion on the President’s suspension of the Chief Justice is not only unfounded but also driven by partisan interests. “It is not born out of the law, but it is born out of their own determination to always re-echo the false and contrived narratives of the New Patriotic Party,” he alleged.
The NDC spokesperson further questioned the GBA’s consistency, pointing out that the association remained silent when former President Akufo-Addo suspended four justices of the High Court under a similar constitutional provision.
“Where was the GBA when President Akufo-Addo, in reliance or in accordance with Article 146, suspended Justice Derry and three other justices of the High Court?” he asked.
Gyamfi concluded that the GBA’s actions have exposed its true colors as an appendage of the New Patriotic Party. “What they have done is to expose their true colors, their true colors as an appendage of the New Patriotic Party, a group of people who always lose their voice when the NPP is in office, but quickly gain their voice when the NDC comes into office,” he said.
