Watch Now: State funeral for helicopter crash victims
A solemn state funeral and burial service is underway at Black Star Square in Accra for six of the victims of the August 6, 2025, Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives, including those of senior government officials and military officers.
The ceremony, taking place at Black Star Square, has drawn President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the military high command, Members of Parliament, members of the diplomatic corps, and hundreds of mourners from across the country.
Today’s event follows the Islamic burials held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, for two of the victims — Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator — in accordance with Muslim tradition.
Tributes, hymns, and prayers fill the air as family members, colleagues, and state officials honour the service and sacrifice of the fallen.
