GES opens promotion applications for teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the opening of applications for the promotion of teaching staff to higher ranks within the service.
The ranks available include Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II and Principal Superintendent. The announcement was made in a circular issued by the GES Headquarters in Accra and signed by the Acting Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, Prof. Smile Dzisi.
According to the statement, applicants must have attained their current rank in or before 2020 and must have served continuously since then, except in cases of approved leave of absence. Teachers applying for Deputy Director must have been promoted to Assistant Director I in or before 2020, while applicants for Assistant Director I must have reached Assistant Director II within the same period. For Assistant Director II, applicants must have attained Principal Superintendent by 2020. Candidates seeking promotion to Principal Superintendent must have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I in or before 2020. The service added that teachers with an approved undergraduate degree will automatically be placed on the rank of Principal Superintendent.
The circular also provided clarification for applicants relying on higher qualifications. Teachers with master’s or doctorate degrees are eligible if the programme pursued was part of the approved GES course of study. The certificates, however, must not have been obtained before a previous promotion. In addition, applicants for Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II and Deputy Director must have completed their programmes in or before 2022.
Applications are to be submitted online through the link [https://bit.ly/gespromotions2025](https://bit.ly/gespromotions2025) or by scanning the QR code provided. Applicants are required to upload a passport-sized photograph in JPEG, JPG or PNG format, their last promotion or appointment letter, and their highest academic certificate. All supporting documents, except the passport photo, must be uploaded in PDF format and must be clear and legible.
The application window opens on Monday, August 18, 2025, and closes on Friday, September 5, 2025.
The circular was copied to the Director-General of GES, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Access, and the Director of Human Resource Management and Development.
GES said the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to reward dedicated staff and to ensure career progression within the education service.
