Ministry of Health condemns attack on health workers at Ridge Hospital

The Ministry of Health has condemned an unfortunate incident at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) Emergency Department. The incident involved acts of interference, aggression, and assault on health workers.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 18, 2025, and signed by Deputy Director and Spokesperson Tony Goodman, the Ministry said it views the development with the utmost seriousness, noting that such actions compromise the delivery of critical healthcare services and endanger the lives of both patients and healthcare providers.
The Ministry announced that as a matter of urgency, steps are being taken to beef up security at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital to ensure the safety of staff, patients, and the general public. It further indicated that investigations have begun into the circumstances that led to the reported delay in care, with a commitment to address any gaps that may have contributed to the incident.
Reaffirming its stance, the Ministry stressed that the safety and protection of healthcare workers remain a top priority and warned that it will not tolerate any acts that threaten their well-being or disrupt essential healthcare delivery.
The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has since paid a visit to the hospital where the incident took place. During his visit, he was given firsthand information on the situation and assured management and staff of the Ministry’s support and protection.
The Ministry concluded by calling on the public to exercise patience, cooperation, and mutual respect at all times, in order to enable healthcare workers to provide effective and timely care.
