Tamale Central parliamentary primaries: Twelve aspirants cleared

Twelve aspirants have been officially cleared to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency.

This follows the conclusion of the party’s vetting exercise.

The NDC vetting committee confirmed that twelve aspirants had successfully gone through the process and would contest in the Tamale Central primaries, scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

The clearance of all twelve aspirants to contest in the Tamale Central Constituency was announced on Sunday, August 31, after the vetting panel, chaired by NDC Deputy General Secretary Lawyer Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, completed its work.

In a statement after the exercise, Lawyer Asamoah commended the quality of candidates, stressing that the twelve aspirants reflected a high calibre of professionals including professors, lawyers, doctors, and diplomats. She also described the participation of three female aspirants as a refreshing and progressive development for the party.

The NDC leadership has urged all twelve aspirants to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns and avoid personal attacks in the build-up to the polls.

Professor Alidu Seidu, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, pledged to run a respectful campaign, recalling the tragic circumstances that necessitated the by-election following the death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament in a helicopter crash.

Some aspirants, however, expressed varying degrees of confidence about their chances. Civil engineer Dr. Aliu Abdul Hamid declared that he was confident of winning the election by a landslide, while others noted that their focus was on reaching out to delegates and uniting the party.

Meanwhile, campaigns in the constituency have intensified, with aspirants increasing their engagements with grassroots supporters.

The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, emphasized the importance of unity among the aspirants and their followers. He cautioned against violence during the campaign, noting that the success of the primaries would depend on discipline and respect for party structures.
