Ghana School Feeding Programme begins payment of arrears to caterers

The Ghana School Feeding Programme has confirmed that outstanding arrears are now being settled.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has announced the commencement of payment of arrears owed to caterers across the country.

According to the GSFP, the payment of arrears covers 56 school feeding days for the third term of the 2025 academic year.

In a statement signed by Siiba Alfa, Director of Public Relations at the GSFP, the arrears are being paid at the newly approved rate of GH¢2.00 per pupil per day. “The Ghana School Feeding Programme has successfully validated and processed all the necessary data to ensure accountability in the payment of arrears,” the statement explained.

The GSFP further stressed that the payment of arrears highlights the Government’s commitment to sustaining the programme and supporting caterers. “We commend the Government and all relevant stakeholders for honouring this commitment,” the statement said. “We also deeply appreciate the dedication, patience, and hard work of the caterers who continue to play a critical role in feeding Ghana’s schoolchildren.”

The Programme noted that the arrears settlement is part of efforts to keep the school feeding initiative running smoothly, providing hot meals daily to thousands of pupils in public basic schools across the country. “Our school feeding initiative is not just about food—it is about ensuring children stay in school, learn well, and receive proper nutrition,” the GSFP statement added.

The GSFP assured that it remains committed to transparency and timely payment, while pledging to work closely with the Government to expand and strengthen the programme. “Our focus is to build a more reliable and sustainable Ghana School Feeding Programme that benefits even more pupils nationwide,” the release concluded.
