Alliance for Civic Action mourns Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings
The Alliance for Civic Action (ACA) has joined the nation in mourning the passing of former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. They described her as a woman whose influence and service shaped generations of Ghanaian women and youth.
In a condolence statement signed by Francis Kwesi Badu-Mello, Secretary-General, the group expressed profound sorrow over her death and paid glowing tribute to her lasting contributions to Ghana’s social and political development.
“Her Excellency played an outstanding role in Ghana’s development, championing women’s empowerment, education, and youth advancement. Her legacy of courage, service, and leadership will forever be remembered,” the statement read.
The Alliance acknowledged Nana Konadu’s remarkable public life, highlighting her decades-long advocacy for equality, social justice, and the advancement of women and children. It further extended prayers and sympathy to the Rawlings family and the entire nation.
“May the Almighty God comfort her family and the entire nation in this time of grief. Rest in perfect peace, Mother,” the message concluded.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. She served as Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, spanning both military and democratic eras, and is remembered for her passionate leadership through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which championed women’s rights, education, and community development.
Her efforts in empowering women politically and economically made her one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s contemporary history. In 2012, she became Ghana’s first female presidential candidate, breaking new ground for women in national politics.
Funeral arrangements, according to the family, will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has declared a three day national mourning period, from Friday, October 24, to Sunday, October 26, 2025, and directed that all national flags be flown at half mast in honour of the late stateswoman.
