Gas explosion at Obuasi, one feared dead
A gas explosion has occurred at Bogobiri in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti region leaving one person feared dead.
In a Facebook post, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), disclosed that the incident was caused by welding activity at a garage.
Firefighters have since been deployed to the scene and are currently managing the situation.
GNFS advised residents and motorists to avoid the affected area and use alternative routes for their safety.
“Thanks to the tactical approach deployed by firefighting teams from Anglogold, Obuasi, and Fomena Fire Stations, the inferno at the Bogobiri garage near the stadium junction in Obuasi has been brought under control.
“Overhaul operations are currently underway to extinguish any remaining pockets of fire within the affected five (5) structures made up of 3 metal containers and 2 concrete buildings.
“Unfortunately, one (1) victim has reported, and seven (7) others who sustained severe injuries have been hospitalized in Obuasi and Kumasi.”
