Gov’t pays GH¢10.8bn DDEP coupon in full, assures bondholders of timely payments

The Ministry of Finance has announced that the government has paid GH¢10.816 billion to bondholders under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), bringing total payments made since 2025 to GH¢41.36 billion.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Ministry said the latest payment was made fully in cash and on schedule.
“This is the third DDEP coupon payment made fully in cash. It was paid in full and on schedule,” the Ministry said.
The payment fulfils an assurance given by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review that the GH¢10.8 billion coupon due on August 18 would be paid in full and on time.
The DDEP was introduced in 2022 as part of Ghana’s efforts to restructure its domestic debt and restore debt sustainability. It involved the exchange of existing domestic bonds for new instruments with revised repayment terms.
The Finance Ministry said the latest payment demonstrates the government’s commitment to meeting its debt obligations and restoring confidence in Ghana’s financial markets.
“The timely payment demonstrates the Government’s fiscal discipline and firm commitment to meeting all its debt obligations. It will strengthen investor confidence, reduce sovereign default risk and reinforce Ghana’s financial credibility,” the statement said.
The Ministry further assured bondholders and investors that future DDEP obligations would continue to be honoured as scheduled.
“Government assures bondholders, investors and the public that all future DDEP obligations will also be paid in full and on schedule,” it added.
