Jesus, please take the wheel – Anthony Obeng Afrane writes

“Jesus, Take The Wheel” was written by Brett James, Hillary Lindsey, and Gordie Sampson and was recorded by Carrie Underwood for her debut album, Some Hearts, in 2005. The song tells the story of a young woman who is driving home for Christmas when she hits a patch of black ice and loses control of her car. In a moment of desperation, she cries out to Jesus to take the wheel and guide her to safety.
The inspiration for the song came from a real-life experience that Brett James had while driving home for Christmas one year. He hit a patch of black ice and found himself spinning out of control on the highway. In that moment, he felt a sense of helplessness and turned to his faith for guidance. The experience stuck with him and he later shared it with his co-writers, who helped him turn it into a powerful and emotional song.
“Jesus, Take The Wheel” struck a chord with listeners and became a massive hit for Carrie Underwood, earning her a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2007. The song’s message of surrendering control and trusting in a higher power resonated with many people and continues to be a favourite among fans of country music.
In another development, I have seen a press release from the NDC Ashanti Region Secretariat dated 10th June, 2024, and signed by the Regional Communication Officer, Lawyer Abass Nurudeen.
The main purpose of the release is to ask Dr. Bawumia, the 2024 flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party ten questions as he tours the Ashanti Region, his party’s electoral gold mine. And the statement from the NDC aside the questions, is asking the people of the Ashanti Region to expect accountability from the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led NPP government for the faith they have reposed in them over two electoral cycles.
The questions are interesting, and are as follows:
1. Why is the Cedi falling so freely under his watch as head of the Economic Management Team? What has happened to his infamous claim of arresting the Cedi and handing over the keys to the IGP?
2. In which Zongo in Ashanti Region can we find the brand new secondary school he promised to construct in all 16 regions?
3. Muslims in the Ashanti Region want to know why Hajj fare is GHS75,000 under his watch when it was just GHS11,900 in 2016?
4. When are the Kejetia Central Market phase two and the Krofrom markets going to be completed?
5.Where are the five interchanges that he and his boss promised the good people of Ashanti Region?
6. Why is the Kumasi Airport phase two and three not in use after it has been commissioned by his boss?
7. Which of the Agenda 111 Hospitals that they promised to complete in 18 months has been completed and ready for use in the Ashanti Region 4 years down the line?
8. Where is Ashanti Region’s share of the one million dollars per constituency that was promised all the constituencies in the Ashanti Region?
9. Why must it take the revered King of the Ashanti, the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, soliciting funds to heal Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital when we don’t pay taxes to Manhyia?
10. What is the state of the Boankra Inland Port?
Folks, as we wait for the answers, my plea to Jesus is for Him to take the wheel and not give it to a reckless driver’s mate else there will be desperation, hopelessness and serious fatalities.
