Mahama sets up presidential economic advisory group

President John Dramani Mahama has constituted a high-level Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy to provide independent advice as Ghana pursues stability and job-rich growth.
The group, known as PAGE, is expected to support macroeconomic recovery efforts, fiscal sustainability and long-term growth strategies linked to the government’s 24-Hour Economy and broader Reset Agenda.
The Presidency said the advisory body will draw on national and international expertise to strengthen economic governance and evidence-based policymaking.
According to the statement issued by the Presidency, PAGE will serve as a non-partisan advisory body reporting directly to the President.
Its mandate includes advising on macroeconomic management, debt sustainability, fiscal and monetary policy coordination, and export-led growth.
“The establishment of PAGE reflects the President’s resolve to draw on deep national and international expertise to support sound economic governance and strategic policy coordination,” the statement said.
PAGE will also offer guidance on industrial development, competitiveness, private-sector expansion and sustainable job creation.
It is further expected to support the design and rollout of flagship programmes such as the 24-Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development Programme.
The advisory group will periodically assess Ghana’s economic performance and recommend policy adjustments where necessary.
It will also provide expert input into Ghana’s engagements with development partners, international financial institutions and investors.
Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, described the move as a signal of seriousness about economic recovery.
“The President wants the best minds to provide candid, independent advice as government takes difficult but necessary decisions to reset the economy,” he said.
He added that the composition of the group reflects a deliberate mix of experience from academia, public service and the private sector.
“This is about practical ideas grounded in experience, not partisanship,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu noted.
The group will be chaired by President Mahama and includes Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, economist and private sector leader Kwame Pianim, former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Kwabena Duffuor, and industrialist Sir Sam Jonah.
Other members are Mr Ishmael Yamson, Ms Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, Dr Henry Kofi Wampah, Togbe Afede XIV, Ghana Stock Exchange CEO Abena Amoah, Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, and agribusiness investor Ato Brown.
“The expectation is that PAGE will help position Ghana for sustained growth and resilience in the face of current economic challenges,” the Presidency stated.
