Mamprobi hospital baby found, suspect arrested

The Ghana Police Service at Dansoman has successfully arrested a woman suspected of stealing a newborn from the Mamprobi Polyclinic, bringing relief to the family and the surrounding community.
The incident, which caused widespread concern, ended with the infant’s safe recovery and return to the mother.
According to authorities, the baby was verified at the police station before being escorted back to the Mamprobi Polyclinic’s gynecology department, where the mother is receiving medical attention. Both mother and child are reported to be in stable condition following the ordeal.
The drama began on Wednesday afternoon when the father of the newborn discovered that his child had gone missing from the hospital. Distressed and desperate, he confronted hospital staff, demanding access to CCTV footage that could identify the person responsible. Videos circulating on social media captured the tense moment, showing the father’s efforts to secure the recordings. The CCTV reportedly caught the suspect in the act, providing crucial evidence that enabled the police to act swiftly.
Speaking to the public after the infant was recovered, Madam Lartey confirmed that both the baby and mother were safe. She emphasized that police had conducted proper identification procedures before reuniting the child with the mother, ensuring there was no confusion.
Madam Lartey also commended the coordinated efforts between the police, a whistleblower, and Ablekuma South Member of Parliament Alfred Nii Lante Vanderpuye. Their collaboration, she said, was instrumental in locating the infant and apprehending the suspect promptly.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover the motive behind the alleged baby theft. Police are working to determine whether the woman acted alone or had accomplices, as authorities seek to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The incident has drawn significant attention from residents and social media users, highlighting concerns over hospital security and the safety of newborns. Authorities have reassured the public that heightened measures will be taken to prevent a recurrence, including improved monitoring and verification systems within healthcare facilities.
For now, the community can breathe a sigh of relief as the infant is back in his mother’s care, and the suspected kidnapper remains in police custody, facing investigation for her alleged actions.
