Supreme Court vetting: Patricia Appiagyei returns GH¢70,000, backs Minority Caucus’ boycott

Deputy Minority Leader and Asokwa MP Patricia Appiagyei has returned GH¢70,000 allocated to her as an advance, citing concerns about the source of the funds and the ongoing controversy over the vetting of three Supreme Court nominees.

In a statement dated September 2, 2026, the MP said she was returning the money because she was unaware of its source and did not want to benefit financially from the vetting of nominees involving members of the Majority leadership.

“It is with regret that I return the amount of seventy thousand cedis (GHS70,000.00) allocated to me as an advance of money from the Majority Chief Whip of Parliament of Ghana,” she stated.

Madam Appiagyei said the Minority Caucus’ decision to protest and boycott the vetting also informed her decision, stressing that she did not want to receive any benefit connected to the process.

“My first reason is the fact that I do not want to enjoy any financial benefit under any circumstances to vet our own colleagues in leadership from the other side,” she said.

The three nominees are Justice Sophia Rosetta Oduokuwa Bernasko Essah, Justice Edward Amoako Asante and Justice Anthony Forson Jr.

The Minority Caucus had earlier declined to participate in their vetting, citing its concerns over the process.

Appiagyei also said she had no intention of seeking money from any of the nominees, adding that she was returning the funds in support of Minority Leader’s decision to return his share.

“I remain committed to the position of our Caucus,” she concluded.

The GH¢70,000 is to be returned to the Majority Chief Whip.
