Teacher shortages in Builsa South to ease – Dr. Apaak

Member of Parliament for Builsa South and Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, says steps are underway to address teacher shortages in the district.

He gave the assurance during a sod-cutting ceremony for educational projects in the area on Tuesday, where he outlined plans to improve staffing levels in local schools.

Dr. Apaak indicated that the Ghana Education Service is expected to open a recruitment portal on April 10, 2026, to engage new teachers nationwide.

He explained that the exercise presents an opportunity to respond to gaps in teacher deployment, particularly in underserved districts such as Builsa South.

According to him, efforts are being made to ensure that the district benefits from the upcoming recruitment to ease pressure on existing staff and improve the quality of teaching and learning.

He noted that several schools in the district continue to face challenges due to inadequate teaching personnel, a situation that affects classroom delivery and overall academic outcomes.

The Deputy Education Minister stated that increasing the number of teachers would help reduce workloads on current staff while creating a more effective learning environment for students.

He added that improving teacher availability remains central to the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the education sector.

Dr. Apaak further emphasized the importance of aligning infrastructure development with adequate staffing, noting that new school facilities must be matched with sufficient teachers to achieve their intended impact.

He said the ongoing projects in the district form part of wider efforts to enhance educational infrastructure and expand access to quality education for all students.

Residents and stakeholders in the district have welcomed the assurance, expressing optimism that the recruitment process will bring relief to schools struggling with limited staff.
