Tema: Police seize 3,0009 slabs of suspected cannabis

The Ghana Police Service says it has intercepted a truck loaded with 3,009 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following an intelligence-led operation in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a press release issued by the Tema Regional Police Command, the interception occurred on February 15, 2026, at about 12:10 a.m., when officers of the Regional Patrols Unit stopped a Sinotruck tipper truck with registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya.
“On 15th February 2026 at about 0010 hours, an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit led to the interception of a Sinotruck tipper truck,” the statement said.
Police said the truck was carrying fertilizer sacks, which, upon inspection, were found to contain 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis.
“The vehicle was loaded with fertilizer sacks, containing a total of 3009 slabs of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs,” the statement noted.
The police further disclosed that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene after sighting officers.
“Upon sighting the Police, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled,” the release stated.
The truck and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters as investigations continue. Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the driver and establish the ownership of the vehicle.

In a related development, the Tema Regional Police Command announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with an attempted bribery incident linked to the seized truck and suspected narcotics.
According to the statement, on February 16, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m., Victor Asigbey, aged 40, and Peter Asigbey, aged 35, were arrested at the Regional CID Office in Tema.
“Two suspects, Victor Asigbey (40) and Peter Asigbey (35), were arrested for attempting to bribe Police officers at the Regional CID Office in Tema with a cash sum of GHS 150,000.00,” the release said.
Police explained that the suspects allegedly attempted to influence officers to unlawfully release the impounded vehicle and the suspected narcotic substances.
“The cash sum was intended to unlawfully influence officers to release the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substances,” the statement added.
The police said the money has been retrieved and retained as an exhibit, while the two suspects remain in custody.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on February 18, 2026.
