11 more Mpox cases recorded; total now 197

Ghana has recorded 11 new cases of Mpox as of July 11, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 197. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) indicates that this rise is steady but manageable, highlighting the importance of continued vigilance across the country.

Since seven cases were reported on June 6, the infection rate has gradually increased; however, health officials emphasise that the situation remains stable. Notably, there have been no new hospitalisations or deaths associated with these cases.

Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral disease primarily spread through close physical contact. Symptoms often include fever, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and a distinctive rash. While many patients experience mild symptoms, early treatment is crucial to prevent complications.

In response to the increasing cases, the GHS is amplifying public awareness campaigns to keep everyone informed and cautious.

Key preventive measures include avoiding close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms, practising good hand hygiene, and seeking medical attention promptly at the first sign of illness. Health authorities stress that timely detection and reporting are essential to stop the spread of Mpox.
